The Baby Unit

We have expanded the Nursery premises and now have a brand new Baby Unit catering for children aged 3 months to 2 years. The staff:child ratio is 1 adult to 3 children.

Our aim is to make the Unit as home-like as possible and we work closely with parents to achieve this. We aim to provide a caring, calm and loving environment, ensuring your child will be happy and cared for - as they are at home. The Baby Unit staff will liaise with you to understand your child's routines and needs - to ensure life at the Nursery closely follows life at home.

Our Baby Unit offers a new spacious Play Room which is a bright and colourful environment where children can explore and investigate to their hearts' content! This room has a large selection of toys and equipment which are specifically designed to encourage the development and stimulation of sensory experiences in developing babies and very young children. There is a new messy play area where lots of tactile and sensory activities take place, encouraging the children to explore, learn, develop and most importantly - have FUN!

We have cosy corners with lots of soft seating and books where children can simply 'snuggle down' if they are feeling a little tired. The cuddly and calming atmostphere in our separate Sleep Room enables our children to sleep peacefully - as they would at home.

You will receive daily information which will outline some of the activities of the day, e.g. food and drink, nappies changed , sleep record and activities such as painting, sticking, exploration of musical instruments, etc. Stories and conversations, singing - and dancing! - and many cuddles feature prominently each day!

We also like to take our babies outside, weather permitting, as much as possible to enjoy the lovely surroundings Bakewell has to offer.

An individual portfolio is initiated in the Baby Unit. This will contain comments, observations and 'milestones' attained. Your child's treasured moments will be captured through photographs and his/her creative masterpieces will be carefully retained! This will continue through to the Toddler Unit and on to the Foundation Stage Unit, giving you a precious gift to cherish when your child leaves Bakewell Nursery School!
